Welcome to Onsted Middle School
7th graders make hats for Associated Charities
Students in Mr. Hunt's 7th grade geography class decided to help children stay warm this winter by making fleece hats.  With Mrs. LaFollette's help, students learned to measure material, cut a pattern, and operate a sewing machine.  Over thirty well-made hats were donated to Associated Charities.
Tri-County Science Fair

The HLM Math Science Center is pleased to present the 2012 Tri-County Science Fair on February 21-23, 2012 at Adrian College. Students in grades 5-12 may enter project-based learning displays for this competition. Division Awards of $100 for first place, $75 for second place, and $50 for third place will be presented in each of these categories:

 

·       Division I – 5th - 6th grade:  Individual and Team Awards

 

·       Division II – 7th - 8th grade:  Individual awards in each category: Life Science, Earth Science and Physical Science, as well as Team Awards

 

·       Division III 9th - 12th grade:  Individual awards in each category: Life Science, Earth Science and Physical Science, as well as Team Awards

 

In addition, students will be eligible to win special Sponsor Awards and the Jim and Sharon O’Brien Educational Scholarship awards. A $500 O’Brien educational scholarship will be awarded to one student in each grade level, 6-10th, whose project exhibits “Excellence in Innovation.” A $1,000 O’Brien educational scholarship will be awarded to one student in each grade level, 11-12th, for “Excellence in Innovation.”

Anti-Agressive Rubric
On October 3, 2011 the Onsted Community School Board of Education adopted the Anti-Aggressive Behavior Rubric for grades k-12. Each building level has a rubric that is similar but tailored to the developmental age of students.  At the middle school this is an effective tool to help create a climate of acceptance and safety for all students.  The rubric is designed for staff and administration to "Sweat the Small Stuff" when it comes to behaviors.  We know that if we can nip some things before they snowball into larger issues that our students can enjoy school more and perform at their highest level.  The rubric was developed by staff through training with Dr. Marcia McEvoy, who is a well respected expert on bullying. Below are links to a parent letter sent home with students on September 6, 2011 and our rubric.

Home Access Center
Student schedules can be viewed on-line using the Home Access Center.  It's also a valuable site parents can use to monitor their child's academic progress and attendance.  To get to the Home Access Center click on Links on the purple bar above and then Home Access Center in the drop down menu.  In order to log on to the site you need your user name and password which can be obtained by calling the middle school office at 467-2168. 
Parents: Create an Account
Parents interested in creating an account may do so by clicking on "About Our School" on the purple bar above, then "New User Registration" listed in the dropdown menu. You must know your student's identification number before you begin. Next, complete and submit the registration form as directed.  If you have any questions while navigating our new website, please contact the Middle School office at 467-2168.

Dear Parents and Community Members:
 
We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which provides key information on the 2010-2011 educational progress for Onsted Middle School. The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws.  The school’s report contains information about student assessment, Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and teacher quality. If you have any questions about the AER, please contact Tom Durbin for assistance.
 
The AER is available for you to review electronically by visiting the following web site http://onsted.oms.schoolfusion.us/ or you may review a copy from the office at your child’s school.
 
For 2010-2011, Onsted Middle School made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in English language arts and mathematics. While we are pleased to have reached this important goal, we are continuously working to improve. We appreciate the continued support of parents, staff and our community in this effort. 
 
Onsted Middle School takes each child’s growth very seriously. To ensure we are meeting the needs of each child, we have set School Improvement goals and been working towards them. Currently, we are looking at data and reviewing if our practices are helping us achieve our goals. Along with each core area setting goals, part of our improvement plan includes added time each day to spiral curriculum or provide enrichment.
